The region Piedmont is located in northern Italy and is bordered on the north by Switzerland (cantons of Valais and Ticino), to the west by France (Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), in the south the region of Liguria, on the southeast by the Emilia-Romagna region, in the east the region of Lombardy and in the northwest the Valle d'Aosta region.
In Piedmont, the scenically diverse region - from high Alpine peaks of Monte Rosa to the Reisfelern of Novara, by the gentle hills of the Monferrato to the Po Valley you will find a variety of offers for vacation stays, cultural tours and culinary tours.

Walking, swimming and good food

A well developed area for tourists is around Lake Maggiore and surrounding countryside where wine gastronomic enthusiasts can enjoy for example Barolo and Barbaresco and of course truffles. The season begins with the truffle harvest in October.
For hiking the entire Alpine region of Piedmont is perfect. Especially the 55-day long-distance trail Grande Traversata delle Alpi (GTA) and the Via Alpina Committed which are very popular. There are also in the region many trails to the summit known as the Giro di Viso and the Giro delMarguareis, and more trails in the valley regions like the Percorsi Occitani in the Maira Valley and Alta Via in Susa Valley.

Culture and sights in Piedmont
Piedmont is rich in artistic and cultural treasures. The most famous buildings include the Baroque representative buildings of Turin, such as the Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama, the San Lorenzo church.
In Stupinigi is the Palazzina di Caccia. In the late Renaissance period the Sacro Monte (dt: holy mountain) from Varallo. From the Middle Ages, the Abbey of Staffarda and the castle of Manta. From the Romanesque period the convent of San Giulio in Lake Orta on the island of Orta San Giulio. At Lake Maggiore the Borromean Islands are the biggest attractions, especially the Isola Bella - a baroque palace island with multi-storey gardens, which always astonish the travelers.
Winter Sports and Tour de France
The most important ski resorts of Piedmont are Limone Piemonte, Sestriere and Bardonecchia. Sestriere is regularly venue of the Alpine Ski World Cup races; Here also the Alpine Ski World Championship 1997 took place. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, the alpine ski competitions were held in Sestriere.
Sestriere was in previous years, always part of the Tour de France. In addition to four stage arrivals and three crossings of the pass also three stages started in the village.
In Piedmont also some of the most important Italian companies have their headquarters, including carmakers Fiat and Lancia (both in Turin), next to the food manufacturer Ferrero in Alba and the electronics company Olivetti in Ivrea.
